WHY KC Pet-Connect NEEDS YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT TODAY ?
When our FOUNDER, Theresa (TC) Leonard, started KC Pet-Connect in 2003, it was just a hobby. She, and all of us in her family, never dreamed that it would grow into the powerful and respected service that it has become. TC was not a computer expert or a website programmer. She simply had a love of animals, a normal interest in technology, took a 4-day course at Johnson County Community College - and the rest is history. TC's strongest interests, though, were in Animal Welfare and Advocacy. She has always had animals around her- dogs, cats and horses. When she moved to her home in rural Olathe in the late 1990s, it was because her landlord in Overland Park could not allow her three dogs and four cats (all rescued) to share the apartment with her and the family. In the years that followed, her Olathe home became a virtual sanctuary for stray animals.
KC-Pet-Connect was born out of a need to reunite lost pets and to find homes for the animals that TC and other advocates cared for until they could be reunited with their families or placed in foster homes. As the website became popular in the Spring Hill-Olathe area, it also grew in visibility in surrounding communities. Today, KC Pet-Connect regularly takes listings from cities and towns like Holt, Pittsburg and Manhattan, KS, Warrensburg, Edwards and St. Joseph, MO. We frequently post lost and found pets from Arkansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois and far beyond. We know today that KC Pet-Connect is truly destined to serve more communities over an even wider range in the future.
Today, however, KC Pet-Connect finds itself in a position that is troublesome. TC's hobby was just that - a hobby website, but one that has grown and is growing beyond the capabilities of our staff to maintain the website the way we do it today - by completely manual posting of all entries - including the photos that are sent to us by email or the US Postal Service. We need desperately to fully automate the website because without automation we will not be able to manually keep up with the ever increasing workload. Your financial support to accomplish automation for KC Pet-Connect will assure that this website service will be around for a long, long time.
